Simple enough to keep using
A personal system works only when capture and review feel effortless.
Clear your head
Put loose commitments onto a board instead of relying on memory.
Limit active work
Keep the Doing column focused so unfinished tasks do not quietly multiply.
See progress
A visible Done column turns small wins into momentum and makes reviews easier.
Three columns, one useful habit
To Do
Captured tasks that are ready but have not started.
Doing
The small number of commitments receiving attention now.
Done
Finished tasks retained for reflection and weekly review.

Two rules that make personal Kanban work
Visualise everything, not just today
Put every commitment on the board, including the small recurring ones. A list that only shows today is a to-do list. The value of a board is seeing the whole queue, which is what lets you say no to the next request with some evidence.
Limit work in progress to three
Three is the usual starting point for one person. If a fourth task needs starting, something has to move back to the backlog first. The discomfort of choosing is the point: it surfaces the fact that you were already over capacity.
Review once a week
Spend ten minutes moving stale cards back, deleting things you will never do, and picking the small number of items that matter next week. Boards decay without this and become another place to feel guilty.
Give interruptions a card
Unplanned work still consumes the day. Give it a card, even retroactively. After a fortnight you will have a rough measure of how much of your week is genuinely yours to plan.
